Working With a Cow-Calf Pair

Working With a Cow-Calf Pair

In CowCalf, a pair is defined as a cow calf pair. We default the pair to stay together until the calf has been weaned (wean data has been entered) or the calf is moved to a different pasture than it's mom.

To view or change the default settings, go to the Settings Menu and select General under Herd Settings. Under Definitions, click Customize.

Per our default, the following will happen.
  1. Pair movement - if a cow is moved into a new pasture, the calf will follow. If a calf is moved to a new pasture without the mom being selected, this will separate the pair and consider the calf weaned. You have the option to undo both of these automations by deselecting them if you wish.
  2. A calf is considered pre-wean as long as it is paired to it's mom.
  3. Once you separate a calf from its mom, or enter wean data, the calf is considered weaned and will no longer move with its mom.

Note: if you would like to see more options for pairs, submit a help desk ticket or reach out to hello@digitalbeef with your suggestions.
