Animal Record Deep Dive

Overview

  1. The animal record is where you go to view details about a particular animal. This includes historical and current information for the animal. This section is customizable, you can learn more about that here
  2. If you are adding information to multiple animal records, we recommend using the WorkCart or Bulk Add menu in the My Herd section. More about that here

+ Menu - Adding Data To A Single Animal

  1. To add data to a single animal, you can go to the + Menu on the top right-hand side of the portal. Here you can access the majority of the forms in CowCalf. Any exceptions will be pointed out below. 

Animal Details

  1. Identification & Details - this section shows you an overview of the animal. 
  2. Current Location - this shows the pasture the animal is located in.
  3. Photos - you can upload pictures to this section using any device by clicking "choose file" and "Add Photo"

  1. Performance - this section has all of the animal performance data. You can view both your association performance data and CowCalf data which is calculated based on what you enter and the Beef Improvement Federation guidelines. 
  2. EPDs - EPD data must come from your association.
  3. DNA - The DNA section shows all of your DNA results and tests.
  4. To EDIT the animal details, click on the icon shown below. It is in the ID & Details and also the Performance section.

Pedigree

  1. This section can show up to a 5-generation pedigree.

Breeding / Progeny

  1. Breeding - Here you can view all of your breeding history both active and historical. If you've connected breeding to preg checks to calving you will be able to follow the breeding from conception to calf.
  2. Progeny - You can view all of the progeny in this tab. 

History

  1. Pastures - Here you can view all of the movement throughout the lifecycle of the animal.
    1. You can move an animal from the animal record by clicking "Move Animal into a Pasture" from the Pastures tab.
  2. Ownership - Here you can view the ownership history of your animals.
  3. Health - Here you can view the health history including applied doses, technicians, etc. 

Notes

  1. View any notes you've added to this animal record. You have the option to pin a note to the home screen or the top of the animal record if you'd like. 

Income/Expense

  1. View all income and expenses associated with the animal. 

Change Logs

  1. Any edits to the animal record will be shown here. You can also view the user who made the change and the day it was done.
