Set Up Your Herd Settings

Set Up Your Herd Settings

The Herd Settings section is where you will go to customize the filters, definitions and data points you wish to collect and view. This will customize the forms you use to enter data into the portal, the tables and the cattle record.

Click on the settings icon on the top right of the portal and click General under the Herd Settings section.

General

  1. Herd Owner - This will dictate who owns the cattle you have in the portal as well as the breeder of any calves born on your ranch.
  2. Identification Methods will dictate the primary and secondary ID for animal tables.
    1. Note: These are not the only data points you will capture.
  3. Definitions - This is where you will define your age ranges and breeding criteria. This will be used when filtering data and will help prompt when to enter and collect certain data.
    1. Note: the ? icon to the right of Definitions shows the IGS and BIF ranges. You can reference this if you have questions about industry standards.
  4. Validations - This section will help you limit user error when entering data into the portal.

Cattle Record & Performance

All of the sections on the Cattle Record and Performance tabs have three customization options. You can always come back and change these later.
  1. Forms - If this is checked, you will see these fields in the forms to add new animals or add calves. If they are not checked, you will not be able to collect this data point when entering an animal.
  2. Animal Record - If this is checked, you will see this information on the animal records.
  3. Defaults - You can default specific items so you don't have to enter them in each time you add data. Ex: If you only put ear tags in the left ear, you can choose to default to that.

  1. Animal Identification - You can define which ID methods are relevant to you. Ex: If you don't use ear tags, you can remove those from the forms and animal record by uncheck the boxes under both Forms and Animal Record for Ear Tag, Ear Tag Location and Ear Tag Color.
  2. Animal Details - Define which details show for the animal record.

Performance Section details.

We recommend setting these sections up based on your association requirements.
  1. Birth Data - This section defines what data is collected when you add calves to the portal.
  2. Weaning Data - This section defines the data collected when weaning an animal.
  3. Yearling Data - This section defines the data collected when an animal reaches yearling age.
