What's the difference between a pasture and a group?
Pastures Overview
We recommend you use your pastures to capture location and movement. You can connect your pastures to your premise ID which can be useful if you hope to export your beef.
Breeding Pastures can be used to create natural service breeding groups. When you move breeding aged animals of opposite sex into and out of pastures, the portal will create single and multi-sire natural service breeding groups. The benefit to this is CowCalf Performance will keep your breeding records up to date without you having to enter data twice.

If you wish to enter all breeding information manually, just make sure you have the breeding pasture status set to No.
Groups Overview
Groups can be used for a couple of purposes.
Auto Groups can help you understand the statistics of your herd at any given time without having to filter the data in your My Herd section. An example of this might be if you like to know how many first calf heifers are in your herd at all times.
Manual Groups can be used to help you manage your cattle in smaller groups. Often one might have multiple manual groups within a pasture. Ex: 2019 replacements or bull calves you plan to steer. The nice thing about this option is if you sort your cattle before you work them, you can predefine your WorkCart for these groups and manage the tasks on an entire group bases. Ex: If you wish to apply health and castrate an entire group, you can apply all in the WorkCart to quickly enter in your data and update the records.
